In 2025, the American College of Cardiology published updated guidelines regarding the diagnosis and treatment of pericarditis. Nurses caring for adults in inpatient and outpatient settings should be able to define pericarditis and its types, identify risk factors for this condition, recognize its signs, symptoms, and complications, and understand diagnostic, treatment, and prevention practices. They should also be aware of the nurse's role in promoting optimal outcomes for patients who experience pericarditis.
