Learn moreCourse overview
The training is intended for practicum agency supervisors who are currently working with social work students or interested in being a practicum supervisor. During the training, we will provide an overview of the problem-solving process during the practicum experience, explain both the Performance Improvement Plan process and what it means to participate in a Performance Review. The participants will also be asked to complete a simulation-based activity where they will engage in discussions around student professionalism and readiness. This scenario helps field instructors practice noticing professionalism concerns early, responding with support and clarity, involving OSU field supports when appropriate, and recognizing when concerns may become serious enough to raise gatekeeping questions. The training will also focus on gathering feedback from agencies about what additional supports could be helpful in supporting students in practicum. Learning Objectives: After completing this training, participants will be able to: 1. Identify early signs that a student may be struggling with professionalism. 2. Recognize when isolated concerns are becoming a pattern. 5. Use supervision, documentation, consultation and a Performance Improvement Plan when needed. 6. Understand when to contact the field liaison and Office of Field Education. 7. Reflect on the field instructor's role in student professional socialization and gatekeeping.
