Course overview

Learning Objectives Upon completion of this course, participants will be able to: Define artificial intelligence and explain its current applications within dental practice. Identify how AI-assisted technologies are used in radiographic interpretation, caries detection, periodontal evaluation, and treatment planning. Discuss the benefits and limitations of AI as a clinical decision-support tool in dentistry. Recognize ethical, legal, and patient privacy considerations associated with the use of artificial intelligence in healthcare. Evaluate emerging AI technologies and their potential impact on future dental diagnosis, treatment, and patient care. Course Description Artificial Intelligence (AI) has rapidly transformed the way healthcare professionals access information, analyze data, and make clinical decisions. While AI technology has existed for decades, the recent emergence of platforms such as ChatGPT, Claude, Microsoft Copilot, and specialized dental AI software has brought these powerful tools into everyday practice. This two-hour continuing education program provides an introduction to the growing role of artificial intelligence in dentistry. Participants will explore how AI is being integrated into diagnostic imaging, caries detection, periodontal assessment, endodontic treatment planning, orthodontic analysis, and oral surgery applications. The course will review current AI-powered technologies that assist clinicians in identifying pathology, measuring anatomical structures, interpreting radiographs, and enhancing clinical decision-making. Attendees will gain an understanding of the capabilities, benefits, limitations, ethical considerations, and future implications of AI in dental practice. Through real-world examples and demonstrations of current technologies, participants will discover how AI can serve as a valuable adjunct to improve diagnostic accuracy, efficiency, and patient outcomes.
