Tracking # 20-1385805
Course overview
Veterinary professionals and pharmacists alike face a growing number of questions, and frustrations, when it comes to compounded medications. This session is designed to cut through the confusion with a practical, question-driven format that delivers clear answers, evidence-based reasoning, and actionable recommendations. Each frequently asked question is addressed in four parts: 1. A concise, one-sentence answer 2. The reasoning behind that answer, including clinical, legal, and regulatory context 3. Supporting data or examples (e.g., AMDUCA, GFI #256, USP revisions) 4. A recommended action for veterinary professionals to apply in practice Topics include why commercial products should be prioritized over compounds, who is responsible for ensuring a compound will work, why pharmacists often fill compound prescriptions without pushback, what's limiting access to previously available compounds, and what veterinarians should expect from a high-quality compounding pharmacy.
