Course overview

Water is the most essential yet often overlooked nutrient in health and rehabilitation. This course explores the science of hydration from foundational physiology to practical clinical application. Participants will learn how the body uses water, how much is needed, and how different beverages including caffeinated drinks, sports drinks, and alcohol affect hydration status. With approximately 60 percent of the body composed of water, adequate hydration directly influences tissue health, joint integrity, cardiovascular function, and cognitive performance all areas central to OT and PT practice. Through evidence-based content and clinically relevant case examples, learners will gain tools to assess hydration needs, recognize signs of dehydration, and educate patients on sustainable hydration strategies across a variety of activity levels and health conditions.
