Understanding the Fascial System

Course overview

This home study course provides Athletic Trainers, Physical Therapists, and Chiropractors with an evidence-informed exploration of fascial anatomy, physiology, and function and their relationship to pain, movement, and rehabilitation. Participants will examine the organization of superficial and deep fascia, principles of tensegrity and biotensegrity, the role of fascia in force transmission and movement coordination, and the influence of hyaluronan on fascial viscoelasticity and tissue health. The course reviews current research on fascial dysfunction and its contribution to pain and movement impairments while providing a scientific foundation for the clinical application of myofascial manipulation techniques. Upon completion, clinicians will have a deeper understanding of the physiologic mechanisms underlying fascial interventions and how to integrate these concepts into evidence-based rehabilitation and performance programs to improve patient outcomes.
