Course overview
Course Description: This course will describe current best practices for screening for intimate partner violence in a health care setting, and how to most effectively respond to a disclosure by a patient. Current Florida statutes governing reporting will be included, as well as current screening requirements in the federal Affordable Care Act. The course includes questions that can be asked and risk indicators that may be seen in various settings, such as primary care, family planning, and adolescent and pediatric settings. Effective and ineffective responses to patient disclosure will be discussed. The health effects of intimate partner violence will also be explored. Recent research into effectiveness, and the recommendations by professional organizations, will be described.
