Course overview

This one-hour lecture provides an introduction to three key extracorporeal therapies used in small animal medicine: hemoperfusion (HP), therapeutic plasma exchange (TPE), and hemodialysis (HD). Participants will explore the principles of each modality, including mechanisms of action, patient selection, common clinical indications, treatment goals, and expected outcomes. Upon completion of this course, participants will be better equipped to recognize patients that may benefit from extracorporeal therapies, understand the role these treatments play in comprehensive case management, and make timely referral decisions that can improve patient outcomes.
