This advanced continuing-education workshop builds clinical and hands-on fabrication skills for static, static-progressive, and dynamic upper-extremity orthoses. Using anatomy and biomechanics foundations, participants will learn to select orthosis type based on force application and clinical intent, apply contracture-management principles, and fabricate/modify splints using thermoplastics, elastomers, aquatubes, and outriggers. Practical sessions cover tone-management strategies, padding/strapping techniques, customization for thumb/burn/hand-positioning needs, and dynamic tension adjustments. Emphasis is on safe fitting, skin monitoring, progressive wear schedules, and problem-solving for common clinical contraindications and complications.
