The Mosaic Practice: Cultural Competency for Asian, Black, and Middle Eastern Patients

Course overview

*Explain the concepts of microaggression, cultural humility, and provider ethnocentrism, and identify how unconscious bias affects the delivery of healthcare to Black, Asian, and Middle Eastern patients. *Describe the health disparities, communication preferences, family structures, and folk health beliefs relevant to Black and African American patients in a chiropractic or healthcare setting. *Identify the cultural values, communication styles, health beliefs, and time orientation of Asian patient populations, and explain how collectivist culture influences clinical interactions and treatment compliance. *Apply culturally responsive strategies when caring for Middle Eastern patients, including accommodating power distance, gender roles, family involvement, and differing expectations around disclosure and preventive care.
