Course overview

*Recognize statin-associated muscle symptoms, common risk factors, and FDA guidance while understanding the clinician's role in not advising patients to discontinue statin therapy. *Describe diagnostic approaches for SAMs, including CK testing, statin challenge protocols, clinical tools, and the influence of the nocebo effect on patient symptoms. *Explain proposed mechanisms of statin-induced muscle injury and differentiate the four levels of muscle involvement from myalgia to rhabdomyolysis. *Apply screening strategies to identify prolonged muscle pain, weakness, or tendinopathy in statin users and appropriately refer suspected cases back to the prescribing physician.
