Course overview

*Identify the unique anatomical features and key ligaments of the mid to lower cervical spine that limit motion and provide stability. *Describe the role of uncinate joints and deep anterior cervical muscles in guiding cervical motion and protecting against trauma. *Explain how costotransverse ligaments and rib articulations limit motion at the thoracic spine and cervicothoracic junction. *Analyze how lumbar facet orientation and the thoracolumbar fascia restrict rotation and shear to protect the lumbar spine. *Describe the origin, insertion, and layered fiber architecture of multifidus across the cervical, thoracic, and lumbar regions. *Differentiate multifidus changes and treatment goals across acute, subacute, and chronic low back pain presentations. *Explain how the FRED device and radiofrequency ablation influence multifidus activation and cervical multifidus function. *Describe the four components of the deep core and contrast their slow-twitch function with the superficial muscle system. *Apply Panjabi's spinal stability model to differentiate angular and linear motion dysfunction in the spine. *Identify congenital, acquired, and degenerative causes of spinal instability and classify the types of spondylolisthesis. *Demonstrate palpation and non-weight-bearing facilitation of lumbar multifidus using the supine block head exercise. *Demonstrate progressive thoracic and lumbar multifidus training techniques from sidelying through upright weight-bearing positions.
