Describe the structural anatomy of the thoracic vertebrae, ribs, and sternum and their regional articulations. Identify the ligaments and synovial joints of the intervertebral facets, costovertebral, and costotransverse articulations. Describe the anatomy and attachments of the diaphragm, psoas, iliacus, and quadratus lumborum. Differentiate the serratus, extrinsic, and intrinsic back muscle groups and their attachments. Explain the organization of thoracic spinal nerves, rami, and intercostal nerve branches. Analyze how thoracic vertebral extension, flexion, lateral flexion, and axial rotation affect disc and rib cage mechanics. Explain how vertical, transverse, and anteroposterior thoracic diameters change during respiration. Describe the diaphragm's role in inspiration, circulation, straining, and weightlifting. Differentiate the actions of the superficial, intermediate, and deep intrinsic back muscles. Demonstrate passive examination procedures including observation and static palpation of the thoracic spine and rib cage. Apply costoclavicular, motor, and Beevor's sign tests and identify appropriate imaging views for the thoracic region. Recognize osteoporosis and osteochondrosis presentations affecting the thoracic spine. Differentiate spinous process, transverse process, articular, rib, and sternal fractures of the thoracic region. Identify congenital defects of the thoracic spine and rib cage, including block vertebrae, accessory ribs, pectus deformities, and scoliosis. Recognize capsular lesions, osteoarthritis, and rheumatoid arthritis affecting thoracic joints. Evaluate intervertebral foraminal compression and grade costovertebral and costotransverse ligament sprains. Describe costoclavicular compression syndrome, shingles, spinal cord lesions, and thoracic peripheral neuropathy. Apply conservative treatment protocols for osteoporosis, costochondritis, and thoracic and rib fractures. Apply manual, modality, and exercise treatments, including pelvic tilt variations, for scoliosis management. Demonstrate Strain Counterstrain treatment of posterior, lateral posterior, and anterior thoracic tender points. Apply ice, modalities, and manual techniques to treat contusion, strain, laceration, ischemia, and atrophy of chest muscles. Demonstrate manual release of the diaphragm and treatment approaches for intercostal, transversus thoracis, and posterior abdominal wall muscles. Apply Somatic Technique, Strain Counterstrain, trigger point ultrasound, and exercise for chronic psoas and iliacus dysfunction. Apply acute and chronic treatment protocols for upper and lower latissimus dorsi dysfunction. Apply treatment protocols for the multifidus, deep paraspinal muscles, and scalene group, including Strain Counterstrain points.
