Ethical Self-Disclosure in Therapy

Course overview

Through this course students will learn about ethical self-disclosure and its purpose in the therapeutic space. Students will review case studies and information to be able to discern between helpful self-disclosure that supports the therapeutic process and unhelpful boundary crossing. Students should be able to identify warning signs that disclosure boundaries have been crossed and have an understanding of skills to move forward in a productive way. Students will gain confidence in their ability to build trust and rapport with clients through ethical self-disclosure and use of appropriate humor in the therapeutic space.
