Course overview
The Medication Safety & HIV/AIDS Bundle for Pharmacy Technicians is a comprehensive continuing education program designed to strengthen the knowledge, skills, and professional competency of pharmacy technicians in two critical areas of pharmacy practice: medication safety and HIV/AIDS awareness. This course equips participants with the tools needed to reduce medication errors, promote patient safety, and provide informed, compassionate care to individuals living with HIV/AIDS. The medication safety component explores the causes and prevention of medication errors throughout the medication-use process. Participants will examine human factors, high-alert medications, look-alike/sound-alike (LASA) medications, error reporting systems, quality improvement strategies, patient safety initiatives, and the pharmacy technician's role in fostering a culture of safety. The HIV/AIDS component provides pharmacy technicians with a practical understanding of HIV transmission, prevention, testing, treatment, and current antiretroviral therapy (ART). . Upon successful completion of this course, participants will be better prepared to recognize medication safety risks, contribute to quality improvement efforts, support patients living with HIV/AIDS, and apply current best practices that enhance patient care and meet professional standards of pharmacy practice.
