Assessing and Addressing ADHD in Outpatient Therapy

Course overview

Diagnosis (and misdiagnosis!) of ADHD has been on the rise. Providers in outpatient settings often encounter clients reporting symptoms of this diagnosis and are faced with the task of determining whether ADHD is present and how to best proceed. This presentation will equip outpatient therapists with the skills necessary to accurately assess ADHD. This includes differentiating between ADHD and diagnoses with overlapping symptoms, assessments or instruments that are appropriate for an outpatient setting, and what providers can do to support a client in accessing more detailed psychological assessment, possible medication management, etc. Providers will understand what they can (and cant) do directly with their clients in an outpatient setting, and their role in making sure clients receive the diagnosis and care that supports symptom management.
