Course overview

The federal government, through SAMHSAs Center for Substance Abuse Prevention department, has defined six specific strategies that can, and should be utilized by prevention professionals. This language provides our field with the ability to articulate the work we do, and in some cases, to obtain funding for those services. But the CSAP 6 is more than that! When fully understood, these strategies can be intentionally and strategically applied to enhance the comprehensiveness of prevention programming. In fact, research indicates that when prevention programs utilize the entire spectrum of these approved strategies, they are more likely to reach their intended goals. This session will define the 6 CSAP strategies using real life prevention programming examples. Participants will participate in an experiential learning process by applying these strategies to their unique programs to develop more comprehensive and effective prevention programs for the benefit of their programs, organizations, and ultimately the people and communities that they serve.
