Alone, Afraid, & Misunderstood: Managing Canine Separation Anxiety in Practice

Course overview

Canine separation anxiety is one of the most common behavioral disorders encountered in veterinary practice. Dogs with separation-related distress may be presented with a history of vocalization, destructive behaviors, inappropriate elimination, self-injury, and/or other signs that can strain the human-animal bond and lead to relinquishment if left untreated. This webinar will review the current understanding of separation anxiety, including underlying emotional and behavioral mechanisms, differential diagnoses, and evidence-based treatment strategies. Attendees will explore practical approaches to diagnosis, client communication, behavior modification planning, and the appropriate use of pharmacologic support to improve outcomes for patients and their families.
