As HER2-targeted therapies for non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) enter clinical practice, optimal management of their toxicities is increasingly crucial (Uy et al, 2022). Each class of medications is associated with a unique toxicity profile, including a risk of interstitial lung disease with antibody-drug conjugates (ADCs) and gastrointestinal and cutaneous side effects with tyrosine kinase inhibitors (TKIs) (Swain et al, 2022; Liu et al, 2024; Melosky et al, 2025). Oncology nurses play a critical role in monitoring for adverse events, educating patients on what to expect with their therapies and when to notify the care team, and promoting adherence to ensure optimal treatment outcomes (Belcher, 2022). Module 3 of this Clinical Insights Microlearning Series will explore nursing strategies for toxicity management and adherence optimization in HER2-mutant NSCLC. It will feature insights from Victoria Sherry, DNP, ANP-BC, AOCNP, Oncology Nurse Practitioner for Thoracic Malignancies at Penn Medicine Abramson Cancer Center and Advanced Senior Lecturer at the University of Pennsylvania School of Nursing, with oncology perspectives from Zofia Piotrowska, MD, MHS, and pathology perspectives from Soo-Ryum (Stewart) Yang, MD.
