Course overview
This continuing education activity provides Sexual Assault Nurse Examiners (SANEs) and forensic nurses with an opportunity to critically review a completed medical forensic examination through a structured peer review process. Participants will analyze one de-identified patient case, including the patient narrative, medical forensic history, injury documentation, medical treatment, referrals, discharge planning, and overall documentation quality. The course utilizes an actual de-identified medical forensic examination record from a patient who provided written authorization for educational use. All protected health information and identifying information have been removed prior to presentation. Through guided case analysis and completion of a peer review tool, participants will identify strengths, opportunities for improvement, and best practices that support patient-centered care and legally defensible documentation.
