Applying Cultural Humility in Behavioral Health Practice

Course overview

Behavioral health professionals regularly serve individuals whose cultural identities, values, lived experiences, and perspectives differ from their own. Providing effective, ethical, and client-centered care requires ongoing self-reflection and the ability to engage clients with openness, curiosity, and respect. This one-hour, pre-recorded, self-paced continuing education course introduces the principles of cultural humility and examines their application in behavioral health practice. Participants will explore how self-awareness, reflective practice, and culturally responsive communication contribute to therapeutic alliance, clinical assessment, treatment planning, and ethical decision-making. Through recorded instruction, clinical case examples, and guided application activities, participants will identify practical strategies that can be incorporated into everyday clinical practice to support effective care across diverse populations.
