Professional boundaries are essential to ethical, clinically sound, and effective behavioral health practice. Clear boundaries help protect client welfare, strengthen the therapeutic relationship, reduce role confusion, and support appropriate clinical judgment. This one-hour, pre-recorded, self-paced continuing education course introduces key concepts related to maintaining professional boundaries in clinical practice. Participants will examine the purpose of professional boundaries, distinguish between boundary crossings, boundary violations, and boundary drift, and identify common boundary challenges that may occur in behavioral health settings. Topics include communication expectations, self-disclosure, scheduling, gifts, social media, dual relationships, termination, and consultation. Through recorded instruction, clinical examples, and practical application activities, participants will learn strategies for recognizing boundary concerns early, responding appropriately, documenting boundary-related issues, and using consultation to support ethical, client-centered care.
