Course overview

Acceptance and Commitment Training (ACT) is an evidence-based behavioral approach that integrates mindfulness processes with values-based behavior change strategies. Grounded in the work of Steven C. Hayes and colleagues, ACT teaches six core processes that help individuals develop a different relationship with difficult thoughts and emotions while taking meaningful action aligned with personally chosen values. In this workshop, participants will be introduced to the ACT model and its six core processes that cultivate psychological flexibility, the ability to remain present, unhook from unhelpful thoughts and emotional struggles and move forward in the service of one's values. Attendees will gain a clear understanding of ACT's framework and practical tools that can be applied in the context of the 988 Lifeline. After completing this training, participants will be able to: 1. Identify specific skills to defuse from difficult thoughts and emotions. 2. Demonstrate strategies to enhance present-moment awareness. 3. Apply techniques for engaging the "entangled mind." 4. Select appropriate ACT-based interventions for real-time application.
