Course overview

After completing this training, participants will be able to: 1. Explain the relationship between early literacy development, social-emotional well-being, and resilience in young children. 2. Analyze how early literacy experiences influence kindergarten readiness and long-term developmental outcomes. 3. Identify at least three practical strategies that families, educators, social workers, healthcare professionals, and community partners can use to support early literacy development. 4. Evaluate opportunities within their professional roles to strengthen literacy-supportive environments for children and families. 5. Analyze key early childhood mental health indicators observed in school settings, including patterns related to emotional regulation, attachment, and behavior. 6. Identify risk and protective factors influencing early childhood mental health across child, family, and systems levels. 7. Apply school social work strategies to support resilience-building in early elementary students and connect families to appropriate mental health resources. 8. Examine the impact of caregiver mental health on early childhood development and school readiness. 9. Evaluate the role of schools as early intervention systems within the broader continuum of community mental health supports.
