Course overview

*Describe the structural and functional changes that occur in fascia, tendons, ligaments, and joint capsules following soft tissue injury. *Differentiate the three grades of ligament sprain and explain the degenerative tendinosis process in injured tendons. *Demonstrate proper hand contact, pressure, and duration protocols for performing effective friction massage on soft tissue lesions. *Apply friction massage techniques to the supraspinatus, infraspinatus, and other rotator cuff tendons for tendinosis. *Identify friction massage contact points and directions for the pectoralis major, latissimus dorsi, levator scapulae, and coracobrachialis. *Describe friction massage protocols for the joints, ligaments, muscles, and tendons of the elbow, wrist, and hand. *Apply friction massage techniques to the rectus femoris, tensor fascia lata, and other muscles of the hip. *Demonstrate friction massage protocols for the ligaments, tendons, muscles, and bursa of the knee. *Explain the functional anatomy of the ankle and foot as it relates to soft tissue injury and treatment. *Apply friction massage techniques to the Achilles tendon, plantar fascia, and temporalis muscle of the TMJ. *Demonstrate myofascial release techniques for the cervical spine and related upper and lower extremity structures. *Describe the principles of Active Release Technique and identify the phases of soft tissue healing by palpation. *Apply Active Release techniques to the scapulothoracic region, glenohumeral joint, and rotator cuff structures. *Demonstrate Active Release techniques for lateral and medial epicondylitis of the elbow. *Apply Active Release techniques to structures affecting the median nerve, including the pectoralis minor and pronator teres. *Identify Active Release protocols for hip muscles and trochanteric bursitis of the lower extremity. *Apply Active Release techniques to relieve peripheral nerve compression involving the sciatic, femoral, and cutaneous nerves. *Demonstrate Active Release techniques for peroneal, saphenous, sural, and tibial nerve compression at the knee and leg. *Apply Active Release techniques to the sternocleidomastoid, scalene, semispinalis, and splenius muscles of the cervical spine. *Demonstrate Active Release technique for the diaphragm to address spasms and associated musculoskeletal dysfunction. *Explain the principles and clinical applications of trigger point ultrasound for locating and treating myofascial lesions. *Identify trigger point locations and pain referral patterns in the rotator cuff and upper extremity musculature. *Apply trigger point ultrasound techniques to the iliopsoas, gluteal group, and other muscles of the hip. *Locate trigger points and apply ultrasound treatment to the scalenes, splenius, semispinalis, and sternocleidomastoid muscles. *Identify trigger points in the lumbopelvic spine and recognize reactive trigger point chains along functional muscle groups.
