Course overview

Explain how kinesiology principles guide identification of aberrant soft tissue motion and pathology. Identify the bones, joints, and arches that comprise the biomechanical foundation of the foot. Describe the nerve, fascial, and dynamic weight-bearing changes of the foot during stance and gait phases. Identify the dorsiflexor and plantar flexor muscles of the ankle and their nerve innervations. Analyze the biomechanics of knee flexion, extension, and axial rotation in relation to stability and mobility. Describe the bony, joint, and ligamentous anatomy of the hip and its three axes of rotation. Differentiate the abductors, adductors, and lateral rotators of the hip and their functional roles. Demonstrate correct standing posture emphasizing foot weight distribution, femoral positioning, and core engagement. Analyze normal and abnormal gait patterns of the lower extremity to identify weaknesses and restrictions.
