Course overview

Differentiate scleratomal, myofascial, capsular, and dermatomal pain patterns encountered during soft tissue evaluation. Describe how injury alters soft tissue structures and identify the pain characteristics unique to each tissue type. Explain the degenerative process of tendinosis and classify the three grades of ligament sprain injuries. Apply patient history-taking principles to identify complicating factors and mechanisms contributing to soft tissue injury. Describe the components of passive soft tissue examination including observation, palpation, and capsular pattern recognition. Demonstrate active examination techniques and apply the muscle strength grading scale from zero to five. Identify the bones, joints, and arches that comprise the functional anatomy of the foot.
