NGB Drug Demand Reduction Outreach Phase 2

Course overview

NGB Drug Demand Reduction Outreach (DDRO) Phase 2 is a 40-hour advanced training course designed for National Guard Counterdrug Drug Demand Reduction Outreach (DDRO) personnel who have successfully completed DDRO Phase 1. Hosted by the Midwest Counterdrug Training Center, this course builds upon foundational prevention knowledge by strengthening participants' ability to apply prevention science, strategic planning, and community engagement principles within real-world prevention settings. The course is designed to prepare participants to operate as Counterdrug Drug Demand Reduction Outreach Service Members in accordance with CNGBM 3100.01. Using the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) Strategic Prevention Framework (SPF) as its organizing model, participants develop practical skills in community assessment, capacity building, strategic planning, implementation, and evaluation. Through instructor-led discussions, collaborative learning, case studies, and scenario-based exercises, participants practice applying evidence-informed prevention strategies to strengthen community coalitions, support law enforcement and community partnerships, and enhance local prevention capacity. Throughout the course, participants work alongside DDRO operators from across the country to exchange best practices, strengthen professional networks, and refine the practical skills necessary to support sustainable, data-driven substance misuse prevention initiatives. Emphasis is placed on translating prevention theory into effective community action while building confidence in planning, facilitating, and evaluating prevention efforts.
