Course overview
This lecture will describe the nutritional management of patients with chronic and acute gastrointestinal symptoms. Nutritional assessment of patients will be discussed. There will be discussion of the wide range of commercially available gastrointestinal diets and their applications. There will also be a focus on fibre classification, prebiotic vs non-fermentable fibres, and their adjunctive use in gastrointestinal disease. Finally, there will be a discussion on the different varieties of probiotics available and when they are best used in the treatment of gastrointestinal disease.
