Course overview

Clinical supervisors are often faced with the complex task of determining when a supervisee's struggles reflect expected developmental challenges and when they signal the need for more structured intervention. These situations can evoke uncertainty, discomfort, and avoidance, ultimately affecting both supervisee growth and client care. This training provides a practical, structured approach to identifying when a formal action plan is warranted and how to respond with clarity, confidence, and ethical integrity. Participants will learn how to assess supervisee competence, engage in direct and constructive conversations about performance concerns, and develop individualized action plans that balance support with accountability. Through case-based examples and applied strategies, participants will examine the full remediation process, from initial concern through implementation and follow-up, while addressing key legal and ethical considerations. Designed to balance relational depth with practical tools, this training equips supervisors to navigate performance concerns with greater effectiveness, confidence, and intention.
