Course overview

EMS personnel and healthcare workers face potential exposure to HIV and other bloodborne pathogens through contact with blood and bodily fluids, with approximately 34,000 new HIV cases occurring annually in the United States. Most occupational HIV exposures can be prevented through proper use of universal precautions, appropriate personal protective equipment, and safe handling of contaminated sharps and needles. This interactive online course will teach you how to recognize HIV transmission routes, implement proper infection control measures, and respond appropriately to exposure incidents in healthcare settings. Additionally, you will learn OSHA bloodborne pathogen standards, post-exposure treatment protocols, proper documentation procedures, and the legal requirements surrounding HIV/AIDS in the workplace.
