Course overview

Emergency responders rely on effective communication skills to successfully interact with patients, dispatchers, medical direction, and receiving facilities throughout every call. Poor communication can compromise patient care, create legal vulnerabilities, and undermine the continuity of care from scene to hospital. This interactive online course will teach you the essential elements of public safety communication systems, radio protocols, and interpersonal communication techniques needed for patient assessment and care. Additionally, you will learn proper documentation practices for Pre-hospital Care Reports (PCRs), patient consent and refusal procedures, and how accurate written and verbal communication substantiates incidents and protects both patients and providers.
