Death and Dying
Tracking # 20-1392699
Course overview
First responders enter their profession to help people, but they frequently encounter emotionally challenging situations involving death and dying that they may not be adequately prepared for. Studies show that approximately 40% of EMTs and paramedics are self-taught about Do Not Resuscitate orders and end-of-life care protocols, creating potential gaps in patient care and emotional preparedness. This interactive online course will teach you the pathophysiology of death, how to recognize signs of impending and imminent death, and proper protocols for comfort measures and termination of care. Additionally, you will learn to navigate Do Not Resuscitate orders, support grieving families, manage SIDS cases, and understand cultural differences in death and dying while protecting your own emotional well-being as a healthcare provider.
