Older adults can pose unique challenges for clinicians due to their sedentary lifestyle and potential for complex medical history. While exercise carries benefits for multiple domains of function, the application of exercise by health care professionals is often underdosed. This leads to minimal change in the geriatric patient population. This course will examine primary aging processes that may affect an older adult's functional status. An evidence-based approach for exercise prescription will be discussed to ensure that exercise science principles and the latest expert recommendations are used during plan of care development including modifications for those with chronic and complex conditions in addition to power training, speed/agility training, and high-intensity interval training.
