Course overview

The use of alternative healthcare modalities is exploding in the United States, and massage and aromatherapy are amongst the most popular. According to the American Massage Therapy Association, almost half of the adult population has had a massage during the past twelve months. Aromatherapy and massage thus make an ideal marriage. Because essential oils have a therapeutic effect when components permeate the skin, they combine well with massage, a therapy that includes touching and applying substances to the skin. Also, the warmth of the client's body, the therapist's hands and the air in the massage room will cause the essential oils to evaporate and be inhaled thus allowing for the oils to be introduced aromatically. During this live workshop, health-care practitioners will learn the science behind essential oils and how to integrate the application of certain oils to improve the overall health of their clients more naturally. Stress, toxic insult, inflammatory response and autonomic imbalance are examined in depth to provide a greater understanding about how internal and external environment affect overall health and well-being. This course also provides the therapist with the fundamental basics for essential oil application in the clinical setting. The application technique taught during the workshop connects the chemistry of essential oils and the nervous system to help the body achieve balance. Essential oils are applied to the back and feet to create a sense of overall wellness. While essential oil application is not a treatment for any specific conditions or diseases, this technique comes alongside the body to restore balance so that the body can focus on getting well. This class provides an excellent foundation for therapists who are looking to incorporate the use of essential oils with their clients to boost immune systems, support healthy joints and muscles, reduce stress, and support overall wellness.
