Course overview
This course reviews the ethical standards governing the three core mental health professions: the American Association for Marriage and Family Therapy (AAMFT) Code of Ethics, the American Counseling Association (ACA) Code of Ethics, and the National Association of Social Workers (NASW) Code of Ethics. Although each code reflects the distinct history and identity of its profession, the three share a common architecture: each articulates aspirational values or principles, then sets out enforceable standards addressing responsibility to clients, informed consent, confidentiality, professional competence and integrity, boundaries and multiple relationships, supervision and training, research and publication, technology-assisted and distance services, financial arrangements, and advertising.
