This advanced continuing education course provides an in-depth exploration of electroacupuncture and electrical stimulation as neurophysiologically driven interventions for pain modulation, tissue healing, and neuromuscular recovery. Participants examine the role of the hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal (HPA) axis in mediating systemic therapeutic responses, with emphasis on how electroacupuncture and electrical stimulation influence endocrine regulation, central nervous system activity, and peripheral tissue adaptation. Current functional MRI (fMRI) and neuroimaging research are reviewed to strengthen clinical interpretation of brain-body interactions and to support evidence-informed application in rehabilitation settings. The course further investigates the mechanistic pathways underlying electroacupuncture and electrical stimulation, including mechanotransduction, neurochemical signaling, and modulation of inflammatory and motor control processes. Learners critically evaluate the evidence supporting these interventions for pain management, muscle spasticity reduction, prevention of muscle atrophy, and enhancement of tissue repair. Clinical decision-making is emphasized through the integration of treatment parameter selection (frequency, intensity, and duration), technique application, and patient-specific planning. Upon completion, participants will be able to translate current research into practice by developing and implementing individualized electroacupuncture and electrical stimulation treatment strategies within comprehensive rehabilitation programs. Emphasis is placed on safe and effective needle placement, parameter optimization, and the integration of systemic and local physiological mechanisms to achieve targeted therapeutic outcomes in orthopedic and neuromusculoskeletal care.
