Course overview

This home study course provides an evidence-based examination of commonly utilized soft tissue interventions for the management of musculoskeletal pain and dysfunction. Participants begin with a contemporary review of pain science, including mechanisms of nociceptive, neuropathic, and nociplastic pain, current theories of pain processing, and the role of central sensitization in clinical presentation. The course then introduces the principles of evidence-based practice, emphasizing critical appraisal of research literature, interpretation of study quality, and integration of scientific evidence with clinical expertise and patient values. Subsequent modules examine the current body of evidence supporting cupping therapy, myofascial release techniques, instrument-assisted soft tissue mobilization (IASTM), and dry needling. Through the review of randomized controlled trials, systematic reviews, and methodological quality assessments using the PEDro Scale, participants will develop the skills necessary to critically evaluate the effectiveness, strengths, limitations, and clinical applicability of these interventions. Upon completion of this course, participants will be better equipped to incorporate contemporary evidence into clinical decision-making, select appropriate soft tissue interventions based on individual patient presentation, and provide evidence-informed treatment strategies that optimize pain management, functional outcomes, and patient care.
