Course overview

In this 1 hour program designed for agencies to train their employees, we learn about safe medication assistance. Safe medication use is important at any age, but it is especially important for older adults who use more prescription and over-the-counter medications than any other age group. The more medications a person takes the greater chance there is for medication errors, unsafe drug interactions, falls and motor vehicle accidents. Upon completion of this training, the participant will understand: how aging affects response to medications; adverse reactions and side effects; how to assist with medications in ways that are legally correct; the role of the nurse and family caregiver in relation to medications; types of medications; medication disposal and storage.
