Learn moreCourse overview
This research intensive course discusses music therapy (MT) and Music based interventions (MBI) in the treatment of substance use disorders. It includes 34 quantitative and six qualitative studies across various countries. Outcomes tested were: motivation, depression, enjoyment, withdrawal/craving, helpfulness, locus of control, participation, coping skills, anxiety, medical symptoms, anger, sadness, and stress. While there were some benefits to this approach, rigorous well-designed studies were lacking, making it difficult to draw significant conclusions. This course is based on the article, Effects of music therapy and music-based interventions in the treatment of substance use disorders-A systematic review created by Louisa Hohmann, M. Sc, et al. in 2017.
