This program is a case-based discussion of osteoarthritis and building a general guideline for approaching the management of patients. OA is a complex and complicated process with no cookbook approach that works the same every time. It is a vicious cycle starting with joint pain and inflammation; it is the number one cause of chronic pain in dogs in the US. This talk will provide the presenters thoughts/opinions on managing patients with the goal being to have attendees make their own decision on how to manage their patients. We will discuss appropriate history taking, use of technicians, staging tools and at-risk patients. In addition, there will be a review of gait evaluation, examination, palpation and radiographs. Finally management options and multimodal approach.
