Primary HPV Screening: Current Status and Future Directions

Course overview

Primary HPV screening for cervical cancer is becoming more common, displacing Pap test cytology from its central role. This webinar will explain the rationale for this change, the role of Pap test cytology and other tests in triaging HPV test results, and the future directions of cervical cancer screening. Dual Stain, extended genotyping of HPV, and DNA methylation testing will be discussed. The FDA-approved primary HPV testing platforms will also be reviewed, as well as the recent addition of self-collection as a testing option. Target Audience This educational activity is designed for pathologists, cytopathologists, cytotechnologists, students and other members of the cytopathology community. Learning Objectives Understand why primary HPV screening is being recommended by the American Cancer Society. Be able to compare Pap test cytology with Dual Stain, HPV extended genotyping, and DNA methylation testing as possible triage options for positive HPV screening results.
