Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) is a leading cause of morbidity in the geriatric population and a frequent contributor to hospital admissions, readmissions, and long-term disability. This continuing education course is designed for licensed healthcare providers who work with patients across the continuum of care: acute care, inpatient rehabilitation, skilled nursing, outpatient, and home health settings. The course provides an intermediate-level review of COPD management, emphasizing the integration of medical and rehabilitative perspectives. Participants will explore the pathophysiology, diagnostic tools, and evidence-based assessment and treatment approaches used in the care of individuals with COPD. Special attention will be given to the role of rehabilitation professionals in acute management, patient and family education, and strategies for long-term disease management.
