Hypertensive Disorders Of Pregnancy

Course overview

Hypertensive disorders are the most common medical complication impacting pregnancy and are responsible for 17.6% of maternal deaths in the United States. About 12% to 22% of pregnancies are affected by a hypertensive disorder. The rates of chronic hypertension and gestational hypertension have risen more than 50% over the past two decades, with African-American women and non-Hispanic white women having the highest incidence. All nurses who work in the maternal-child setting should have current knowledge of hypertensive disorders in pregnancy, and their management, to provide safe, evidence-based care. This module provides nurses with information about the differentiation of hypertensive disorders of pregnancy, the effect on the mother and fetus, and current recommended management.
