Course overview

Identify the standard T1, T2, and STIR signal characteristics and describe the sagittal and axial sequences comprising a standard lumbar MRI protocol. Apply the Fardon disc nomenclature, Schizas stenosis grading, and Modic endplate classification when interpreting lumbar MRI reports. Recognize facet arthropathy, synovial cysts, and spondylolisthesis on MRI and differentiate osteoporotic compression fractures from metastatic lesions using pedicle signal. Differentiate foraminal from central herniations on parasagittal images and evaluate when lumbar MRI is clinically indicated based on red flags and guidelines.
