Course overview

1. Define obesity and understand its epidemiology, diagnostic criteria, and major risk factors, including genetics and lifestyle. 2. Describe the pathophysiology of obesity, including the role of energy imbalance, hormone regulation, and metabolic dysfunction. 3. Identify common health complications associated with obesity, such as type 2 diabetes, cardiovascular disease, and obstructive sleep apnea. 4. Review FDA-approved pharmacologic agents used for obesity treatment, such as Orlistat, Liraglutide, Phentermine/Topiramate, and Contrave. 5. Explain safety considerations, contraindications, and monitoring parameters when prescribing anti-obesity medications. 6. Integrate pharmacological treatments with behavioral and lifestyle interventions to create individualized care plans.
