1. Define cultural competency and its role in healthcare -Understand what it entails and why it is essential for delivering effective, patient-centered care. 2. Identify and recognize various dimensions of cultural diversity - List and describe aspects of diversity, such as race, ethnicity, language, socioeconomic status, religion, gender, and more, that can impact healthcare interactions and outcomes. 3. Develop communication strategies for culturally competent care - Use communication techniques that respect cultural differences, including effectively working with medical interpreters to overcome language barriers. 4. Apply culturally tailored care practices - Adapt healthcare delivery to meet the unique cultural needs of patients, such as dietary restrictions, religious practices, and alternative therapies. 5. Examine ethical considerations in culturally competent care - Gain insight into ethical challenges when balancing cultural beliefs with standard medical practices and the principles of patient autonomy. 6. Implement strategies to foster a culturally inclusive healthcare environment - Create a welcoming and inclusive environment for patients of diverse cultural backgrounds and practices for continuous improvement in cultural competency.
