AP Genetic Testing Update in Pediatric Eye Care Co-Management

Course overview

Understanding of the genetic contributions to rare eye conditions has rapidly grown. Optometrists are at the forefront in recognizing signs that point to an underlying genetic syndrome or hereditary ocular condition. Diagnostic genetic testing is increasingly available but is underutilized. Collaboration between optometrists and genetics providers can bring recent genetics advances to families in a meaningful way. Methods of evaluation for suspected genetic conditions, strategies to resolve inconclusive genetic test results, and genetic counseling pearls will be discussed.
