Course overview

Considering the developmental level of a supervisee is a critical component of supervision. This program reviews popular theories of counselor development and how professional growth impacts the supervisory working alliance. We will review the intersection of counselor development with concepts like case conceptualization, documentation, and navigating ethical dilemmas. Models of supervision that operate from a developmental lens will be discussed, emphasizing advantages and possible pitfalls of each. Lastly, research into the professional development of supervisors will also be reviewed. Providers leaving this program will better understand the role of counselor development in supervision as well as strategies or modalities that may best fit themselves.
