AP Understanding Vision in Albinism: Cortical Wiring to Clinical Management

Course overview

Visual outcomes in albinism are driven by differences in neural wiring and retinal organization. This one-hour, case-based lecture focuses on abnormal optic pathway crossing and altered retinal organization as the primary drivers of visual function in albinism. Three clinical cases demonstrate implications for binocular vision, amblyopia management, nystagmus, and clinical decision-making, while integrating emerging and sometimes conflicting evidence on structure-function relationships and visual perception.
